Young SIETAR is a virtual society which means that the ?every-day-business? is run virtually. With the help of e-mail, e-groups and other virtual tools, we tackle the challenge of the 21st century: Virtual cross-cultural communication and virtual cross-cultural teamwork. It is very exciting to run or be a member of a virtual organization and a great learning opportunity for all of us. However, face-to-face meetings from time to time are important to gain new energy and come up with new ideas.
One occasion to meet is our Annual Congress which provides the ideal platform to get together for a few days of intercultural learning, networking and fun. Another opportunity to meet are the smaller events (i.e. workshops) we organize (see Events).
Young SIETAR is managed by our Governing Board. The members of the Board dedicate a lot of time and energy towards Young SIETAR?s vision on a voluntary basis. In Young SIETAR, nobody is getting paid for what he/she does. The Governing Board also communicates on a virtual basis and important decisions are taken in form of e-votes.
Our members communicate with each other in our general e-group that serves as a kind of mailing list. It?s a forum of interaction to exchange thoughts, share ideas and discuss topics related to the intercultural field.
Young SIETAR offers its members the possibility to join one ore more of its project teams that work in e-groups. Each team has a moderator who is in charge of facilitating the group. Also, we always invite members to launch a new project if they have new ideas.
Young SIETAR members have the choice to be active or passive. They can benefit from the communication within the general e-group or they can decide to become part of a project team.
Young SIETAR and our events is financed entirely from the annual membership, congress fees and sponsoring. Thanks to that money we are able to keep the society going, pay off all our administrative costs (such as phone bills, taxes and website costs) and organize our annual congress as well as smaller events.
