Meeting Venues

In order to experience more of Cairo in the short four days we have during the congress, we decided to somewhat complicate matters and go for two different venues. Another reason is that these different venues reflect better the process we will undertake.

And so on Thursday, we will begin our journey in the heart of Downtown Cairo in the renowned Townhouse – the Gallery of Contemporary Art, more precisely in the space of the Raawabet Outreach Group. Raawabet is perfectly suited for our planned exploration of Cairo. We hope, it will also serve as an inspiration for the “Creative approaches” mentioned in the title of this year’s congress.

The journey will continue the following two days on the premises of the Language department of the Goethe Institute in Cairo located in Dokki (a mainly residential area of the city on the opposite side of the Nile from Downtown). In the mornings, we will sip our cups of coffee/tea in the Cairo Café set up in the garden of the Institute, and in the afternoon we will move inside for the workshops.

On Sunday, we will return to Raawabet to finish our journey.

A practical note:

Both venues are easily reachable by public transportation. As you might remember, this will be our primary mode of getting around.

The Raawabet is a comfortable walk of 10 – 15 minutes from our hotel, the Garden City House Hotel. It can be reached by a taxi in 5 minutes.

The Goethe Institute is best reached by the metro – 2 stops from our hotel – combined with a 5 min walk. A taxi should take 10 – 15 min depending on the traffic.
