How do I get to Jena?

Please agree all travel arrangements with us BEFORE booking!!!

By plane:

Jena does not have its own airport but there are three airports nearby. Please have a look if there are flights available from your most convenient airport (all information are available in English).

Altenburg (near Leipzig):

http://www.leipzig-altenburg-airport.de/htdocsen/flugzieleen.shtml

There is a bus shuttle between the airport and Altenburg train station which takes around 15 min. From there you can take the train to Jena-West which takes around 1h 17min(see below for directions from Jena to the Youth hostel).

Leipzig-Halle Airport:

http://www.leipzig-halle-airport.de/en/index/reisende_besucher/flugziele.html?newLanguage=en

There is a train connection from the airport to Leipzig Central Station which takes 14 min (http://www.leipzig-halle-airport.de/en/index/reisende_besucher/an_abreise_parken/nahverkehr.html). From Leipzig Central station you take the train to Jena Paradies which takes 53 minutes.

Erfurt :

http://www.flughafen-erfurt.de/en/fluginformationen/flugplan.html

From Erfurt airport you take the city rail line 4 till Erfurt main train station (Hauptbahnhof) (http://www.flughafen-erfurt.de/en/an_und_abfahrt/oepnv.html)

You need approximately 30 min. from Erfurt main train station to Jena-West with the train (see below for directions from Jena to the Youth hostel).

If you cannot find any appropriate flight to these three airports you can also try one of Berlin’s airports (www.berlin-airport.de) or Frankfurt Airport (http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/cms/default/rubrik/24/24139.airportcity_com.html).

By train:

Jena has two train stations: Jena-West and Jena Paradies. You can arrive on either one. For all train connections to Jena-West and Jena Paradies have a look at www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

How do I get from the train station to the Youth Hostel?

We will be staying in the following hostel:

Hostel Alpha One
Lassallestraße 8
Jena

There are two main train stations in Jena:

If you arrive at Jena-West:

You can either walk from the train station to the hostel (about 15 minutes) or take a taxi. However, please note that, we will not be able to reimburse taxi expenses.

Directions from Jena-West (A) to the hostel (B): 1.3 km, about 15 minutes walk

You can also take a bus but it takes much longer than walking, you will have to change buses and you still won't arrive directly at the hostel. So we recommend walking or taking a taxi. However, you can find a map with bus lines here:

If you arrive at Jena Paradies:

You can either walk, use the tram (for half of the way) or take a taxi. However, please note that we will not be able to reimburse taxi expenses.

Directions for walking from Jena-Paradies:

Directions from Jena-Paradies (A) train station to the hostel (B): 6 km, about 15 minutes walk

Directions for taking the tram:

There are tram stations right in front of the train station Jena-Paradies. If you arrive between 5 and 12 am, you can take tram number 35 ,direction "Ernst-Abbe-Platz". It goes at 25 minutes and 55 minutes past every hour (so 5.25, 5.55, 6.25, 6.55, 7.25,...).

If you arrive between 12 am and 7 pm, you can take tram number 5 direction "Ernst-Abbe-Platz". It goes every 20 minutes (at 12.13, 12.33, 12.53, 13.13, 13.33, 13.53,....).

In each case, the trip will take 4 minutes (2 stops) and you need to get off at "Ernst-Abbe-Platz". From there, you can easily walk to the hostel (5-10 minutes, 600 meters).

There are ticket machines on the tram but you need coins (ticket price is 1,70 €).

Here you find the directions from Ernst-Abbe-Platz to the hostel:

Please let us know if we can help you!
