Interculturalism Reloaded:
Exploring a Changing Landscape!
November 25th to 28th, 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey
More than fifty participants worldwide are expected to attend the congress, which will offer a four-day program for the YS members and guests, students, recent graduates and young professionals in the intercultural field. Besides the wonderful
opportunity to interact with different cultures, and meet many interesting people, the congress will feature a wide variety of learning opportunities.
This year, Young SIETAR presents “Interculturalism Reloaded: Exploring a Changing Landscape,” where we will immerse ourselves in the local culture and use innovative methodologies to discuss our intercultural work, challenging the way we approach intercultural situations.
We will use collaborative knowledge creation methods such as World Café, Open Space Technology, as well as artistic expression, using music and art to explore intercultural issues, and the more traditional workshop setting to raise core questions and find a common vision for the future. Participants will have the chance to ask questions they never dared to ask and the time to finally discuss key issues in depth.
- After ten highly successful congresses in
- Amsterdam/The Netherlands (1997)
- Brussels/Belgium (1999)
- Wroclaw/Poland (2000)
- Timisoara/Romania (2002)
- Bratislava-Liptov/Slovakia (2003)
- Berlin-Usedom/Germany (2004)
- Zadar/Croatia (2005)
- Benageber-Valencia/Spain (2006)
- Ravensbrück/Germany (2007)
- Cairo/Egypt (2009),
Young SIETAR will embark on a new journey: we will be visiting the only metropolis in the world that is situated on two continents: Istanbul!

“Interculturalism Reloaded: Exploring a Changing Landscape” is the theme that will be guiding us between the 25th and the 28th of November as we visit the megacity of Istanbul. We can catch a glimpse of its rich history just by looking at the number of names the city has had since its beginnings – Byzantium, Augusta Antonina, New Rome, Constantinople, Kostantiniyye, Stamboul – to name a few.
Istanbul, Turkey is a bustling city of 12.8 million inhabitants, known for its 3 millennia of history and its rapidly-emerging modern metropolis. Tourists are often stunned by the abundance of historical buildings and their varied eclectic architecture, the happening nightlife, the beautiful Turkish baths, shopping opportunities, and local people’s generosity and hospitality.
